2015 Race to the Row

The Somerville Road Runners are proud to present the 3rd annual Race to the Row 5K in Assembly Square in our hometown of Somerville, MA! This is a family-friendly event for all ages and speeds. Free kids run, food, drinks and music as well.

The Somerville Road Runners are proud to present the third annual Race to the Row 5K in Assembly Square in our hometown of Somerville, MA. It's a run, walk and wheelchair race through Assembly Square and along the Mystic River. The race is open to runners, teams and families of all ages and abilities, ending with a fun-filled post-race party with food, drinks and beer served from the local restaurants and businesses! All proceeds will benefit East Somerville Main Streets as well as Somerville TrackPAC.


But before the 5K, we also have a couple other events. We're going to have our first annual Fast Mile Race, a 1 mile loop race in Assembly Row open to all ages. Runners in the mile must be able to complete the distance in 10 minutes or less. There in no online registration for this race. It's only $5 and you sign up the day of the race. There will also be a free 1/8 mile Kid's Fun Run (age 9 and under) before the race with all kids getting a medal!


The first 300 registrants to the 5K are guaranteed to receive cool swag, and all paid 5K registrants will get free food, drinks and dessert afterward! All 5K racers and voluinteers can participate in the post-race festivities. Others can pay $10 to be able to eat and drink along with them. There will be an awards ceremony following the race for top finishers in Mens, Womens and Wheelchair divisions as well as team awards.



Registration for the 5K is $25 through Memorial Day (May 25), and $35 afterward, which includes a t-shirt if you sign up by August 1. On the day of the race, registration increases to $40. You can pre-register for both the 5K Run and 5K Walk at RaceMenu until Saturday, August 23 at 10:00pm. 

There will also be day-of sign-up at the event starting at 8:00am. Those who pre-register will be able to pick up their packet early at the Adidas Outlet Store in Assembly Row on Saturday, August 23 from noon until 4:00pm. In order to do the early pick-up, you must register online no later than 9:00am on Saturday, August 23. Those who register after that time will only be able to pick up their packets on Sunday at the event starting at 8:00am.


There is no online registration or pre-registration for the Fast Mile. You will need to sign up the day of the race by 8:45am at the registration table. Just fill out the waiver and pay $5 and you get your bib. Please note the the food and beverages in the post-party are not included with this registration.


You do not need to pre-register for the Children's Fun Run. Simply show up before the race and fill out the registration form.

If you're using public transportation, the new Assembly Station on the Orange Line will bring you right to the course, a few hundred yards from race headquarters. When you get out of the station walk North on Great River Road (if the train is behind you, turn Right). Go past the parking lot on your left and you will see the registration area just afterwarrd. You can use the MBTA Trip Planner to help out.


The 5K course is a measured 5K that winds through and around Assembly Square in Somerville. It's a semi-double-loop that starts and finishes by the intersection of Grand Union Blvd and Artisan Way. The route is flat and fast and all on roads. You can view the 5K course here. The exact starting and finishing lines may still be adjusted.

The Fast Mile course is a measured mile that loops around Assembly Row. It begins and ends right by registration. The route is flat and fast and all on roads. You can view the mile  course here. The exact starting and finishing lines may still be adjusted. NOTE!! While the Fast Mile is for all ages, runners must be able to finish the course within 10 minutes due to traffic.



East Somerville Main Streets is a non-profit organization dedicated to rebuilding the East Broadway Business District as the heart of the East Somerville community and as a vibrant destination, and improving the quality of life of all those who live in or visit East Somerville.  This is accomplished through volunteer-driven events and initiatives which play off of the unique characteristics of the neighborhood in order to further develop that character. We also donate funds to Somerville TrackPAC, which provides college scholarships for Somerville High School students.
