Race Description : A fun and friendly 5K created by and for runners, the Brighton Bangers 5K follows a shaded riverside loop beginning and ending at Community Rowing’s Harry Parker Boathouse, followed by an afternoon of free beer and live music from four great bands.

The entry fee—including the beer and music, a performance T, and trophies for the top three men and women and top three teams—is only $29 until September 3. Barbecue and other food-truck food will be available for purchase.

Proceeds benefit "In the Same Boat," a free program at Community Rowing for disabled and able-bodied military veterans readjusting to civilian life.

RACE DAY AND PACKET PICKUP INFO

1.     Runner pickup. Runner bibs and shirts, plus great coupons and samples, will be available for pickup from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday, September 17 and 18, at Greater Boston Running Company, 1229 Centre St. in Newton Centre. There’s a coupon in your bag for a discount at the store, so come and cash it in! Check-in will also be available at Community Rowing’s Harry Parker Boathouse from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Saturday, right before the race.

2.     Last-minute registration. Online registration will remain available until midnight Friday, and on site Saturday. Runners who register after midnight Friday must pick up their bibs on race day. Day-of-race registration is $35 (cash or credit), and a shirt is not guaranteed.

3.     Parking. There is plenty of free parking available along North Beacon Street and Greenough Boulevard and at the Arsenal Mall on race day. Parking will not be available in the Community Rowing parking lot.

4.     Start/finish. The start and finish will be in front of the Harry Parker Boathouse at Community Rowing, 20 Nonantum Rd. in Brighton. The starting horn will sound at exactly 11:30 a.m. There will be trophies for the top three teams and medals for the top three men and top three women.

5.     Course and water stop. The course will proceed clockwise from Community Rowing on the mostly shaded (but wear sunscreen!) DCR running path along the Charles. There will be one water stop at the halfway point. Volunteers will be on hand at the turns. There is only one vehicle intersection—the entrance to the Watertown Yacht Club. Use caution. Please also note that there is a turn just past the starting line and a narrow turn shortly before the finish. Because the path is relatively narrow, earbuds and strollers are discouraged; runners with strollers, if any, will be asked to line up at the back of the pack.

6.     Post-race activities. Water, bananas, and sports bars will be available at the finish line. There will also be free beer; please remember to bring a photo I.D. There will be food-truck food for purchase and five live bands: Peter Prince and the Trama Unit, the Nephrok! Allstars, B3 Kings with Tim Gearan, and Pat and the Hats.

7.     In short, the best 5K ever.
